Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren, famed for its high quality American sports lifestyle brand, was launched by Ralph Lauren himself in 1967 New York City. Originating as a tie manufacturer, Ralph Lauren has grown to be one of the most recognisable brands known for its high quality, distinctive American ‘preppy’ style and of course the signature Pony logo. Ralph Lauren has many successful sub brands all hitting a slightly different target market that has helped to make it known and loved by so many; Chaps, Lauren Ralph Lauren, Polo Ralph Lauren, Double RL, Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren, Ralph Lauren Purple Label and Polo Ralph Lauren Sport (Polo Sport). Ralph Lauren, originally worn by country club folk, made it’s way to urban street culture due to gangs in Brooklyn in the late 80’s notorious for stealing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of Ralph Lauren to be worn in the hoods of NYC. This started a new sub-culture for the brand, which transitioned Ralph Lauren from the ‘preppy’ upper-class to inner city streetwear royalty. Ralph Lauren has since been, and continues to be, worn by influential street figures adding to it’s subcultural credibility, most notably rap group Wu Tang Clan that propelled and Kanye West has cemented it as an 80’s, 90’s and Y2K street fashion staple.
